  Thank you to Emma and James of The Oddfellows Arms who raised £256.00 for the school with their recent raffle at the Christmas Tree lighting and carol singing.  The money will go towards developing the school gardens project that the children are currently working on.

• Arts Mark!

  Fellview is an official Artsmark school so a participant in the only creative quality standard for schools and education settings, accredited by Arts Council England.

  Artsmark’s flexible framework is designed to help us embed arts, culture and creativity across the whole curriculum, celebrating our commitment to cultural education. 

  This year, Fellview children have been engaging in a range of arts-related and fun projects.

  Amanda Wright from Cumbria Music Hub worked with all the children throughout the school in the autumn term. She used the music programme ‘Charanga’ to support her teaching. The staff had an opportunity to observe and work alongside Amanda to build their own subject knowledge too. 

  Amanda Wright also carried out a musical instrument audit and now we need to decide what items we will purchase.

  Sculpture Project

  Children have created designs for the four sculptures plus a wind chime and are working on them at the moment. We will have an open afternoon to present the sculpture trail to the community.

  Funding has been gained for ‘A Sense of Place Project’ and the children have created designs for a sensory garden.

  Art Council representatives were elected from each year group in April. We have met twice this half term to discuss the sculpture trail presentation and decorations for the community jubilee celebrations.

  Currently, staff are reviewing the whole school curriculum and one of our aims is to explore how we can embed the creative arts across the curriculum. We hope to create cross-curricular opportunities using dance, music, art and drama to teach in all other subjects. One suggestion from the Arts Council was for each class to have a full day focusing on the creative arts and linking it to other subjects so an example might be creating a work of art, dance, or music linked to the PSHE topic on that day.
